Empowering young adults with disabilities and autism
Fair Shop Cafe creates employment opportunities for all.
transcript
My hopeful story is inspired by a past Wonderspace podcast with Joey Cuthbert, whose hopeful story was the Fair shot Cafe in Covent Garden in London. I wanted to check it out myself and visit and take a deeper dive into their mission, and I think it's extraordinary. Fair shots vision is to create a society where adults with learning disabilities or autism have an equal and fair chance at obtaining and maintaining employment. They are responding to the fact that nearly 95% of adults with a learning disability are unemployed. The Fair shot internship programme has opened up opportunities for 45 young adults over the past 3 years and has inspired 19 employment partners dedicated to creating an inclusive workforce. So if you're near Covent Garden, I so recommend you experience this brilliant and hopeful enterprise.
